In trying to re-connect with his mother after 25 years, MacGregor found so little to hold on to. Personal memories or recollections from those who knew her left the essence of who she was always just out of view. But the fields around where he grew up seemed to have something more to say. They whispered something in an unintelligible language. Behind every memory in that place was a hidden presence, bestowing a sense of love, warmth and safety in all those past endeavours.

MacGregor thought perhaps if he were to lay down in one of those fields on a summer’s day and let the land speak to him, that that elusive sense of who his mother was could be blown in on a gust of wind. Perhaps if he could capture that sense with music, he could hold on to it and let it fill his whole being, before letting it once more disappear off into the ether.

Grasping the Wind was recorded and filmed around Grafham and Ellington Thorpe where MacGregor grew up.
